This happened about three in the morning. The pic with the boat, it was that neighbor of mine, who around 3 am heard a loud noise. Went outside and it was dark, he really couldn't see anything. He did notice his power line down and thought when it snapped, it hit the house and that was the noise he heard. Then when daylight broke, he went out to check it out and that is when he saw what happened.

We had kids that like to drive through our neighborhood and tear up lawns with their cars. Many of my neighbors have been putting up steel poles up on the edge of their lawn, mostly those on the corners....they get hit the worse.

Well, after our own investigation, after the police left, we think one of three things happened....

They did not realize the curvature of the road, ran into Mr. Bill's yard, hit the fence and scared, backed up, speed up and lost control again, driving across the neighbors across the streets yard, hitting the other neighbors truck and landed in the mulch. Scared, they backed up and took off....they left ALOT of broken pieces, by Mr. Bill's fence and where they hit the truck.

Or, the person driving was drunk!!!

Or, a bunch of kids out to cause mayhem!!! (that is more common in our neighborhood...our community park grounds are torn up because of this!!!

Well, apparently they busted up their radiator or something and was leaking fluid. My neighbor, who was the victim, he and his wife followed the trail of fluid....and it led up to a house a few blocks away. They saw some people in the garage putting down kitty litter on the garage floor, then a lady comes out of the house and closes the garage door and goes back in! She did not say a word ... as my neighbors were taking photos! SUSPICIOUS? Hmmmm...if someone was taking pics of my house, I would ask WHY?

Well, my neighbor called the officer that took the report and gave him that address. Haven't heard anything back. The report says HIT AND RUN...but we just found out in VIRGINIA....it's not Hit and Run until 24 hours pass!!!! If they turn themselves in or go to my neighbor and say they did it...it will not be considered Hit and Run.

Neighbor had his truck towed this morning...to get repaired. Virginia Power came and got our lines repaired...they were quick!!!

So, we had another eventful morning in our neighborhood!

We are thinking of setting up a neighborhood watch patrol! I'm a night owl, so I wouldn't mind doing that!

We had a man, this past November (Thanksgiving day to be exact), hit a parked car infront of my neighbors home, while we were standing outside!!!! He backed up and drove off. Of course, my neighbor acted quickly and got the lic number! Because of that 24 hr law, the guy turned himself in before midnight and it was NOT considered a Hit and Run. The cops went to the house after the accident and the woman said she was not driving the car. The man driving was DRUNK!!!! And because the man turned himself in and because he only had liability on his vechicle....the owners of the car lost on that.....the car was totaled!

Thank God both of these did not cause injury or death to anyone!

The police said if that tree was still there, whoever was in the car may have been as well....he said they were going pretty fast to cause that damage....and if that truck was not in the driveway....they may have run right into the house...!!!

Anyways....this was our day....

Those darn kids!

Something like this happened to my father-in-law last year. A drunk driver was hauling butt down the road, lost control, and smsahed into my father-in-law's car that was parked in his driveway. The car was a loss. The noise woke my father-in-law up, but by the time he got out of bed, put on his shoes, and stumbled outside in the dark, the drunk had abandoned his car and took off. Turned out to be some middle-aged guy who lived about three blocks away. He was made to pay all damages to car, yard, etc.

What a mess! Sure glad no one was hurt! Gonna take awhile to clean it all up though!

Nothing better to do than complain about our freckle faced innocent American youths! ;D The poor boys just have low self esteem. They need love and understanding, not their feelings hurt by harsh words and police involvement. And the poor mother, embarrassed beyond words.
Sure happy no one was hurt, even them I guess. :icon_scratch:
From my experience, it's just bad upbringing. At least that's how I excuse my group that did the same thing (without the car damage). One was the 'mail box derby', each car starts from the opposite end of big sub division and take out mailboxes from both directions, and switch sides when we meet in the middle.
:tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard:
Another favorite was rat racing, that's a chase game through alleys, yards, parks, fields, or whatever obstacle you could use to lose the chase car on your bumper. One guy was going to hideby pulling into a garage and ended up driving through the front wall, on that occasion the race was betweem them and the cops. Cops won.
As I remember, alcahol is a defininite requirement for both of these youthful hijinks. :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard: :tard:
That hit and run glitch/law sure is convenient if your driving drunk, all you have to do is leave, or elude the police, sober up, and turn yourself in. A person could be completely within the law to go home, have a few more drinks, and even call the police and 'fess up and come in the next day for the ticket.
Sure bugs me that kids today are just as ignorant as I was 40-50 years ago. You'd think we'd've made some progress by now. Or maybe they, like my group and I, they are just the "Cream of the Crap". jim
Please do not forward bills for mail boxes damaged 50 years ago.

The deleted word is ig nor ant. No profanity was involved. While I appreciate the good will and protection of not being able to describe myself, my friends, and these loser kids as ig nor ant.
I do believe it is the best word to describe our actions, except for the guys that got caught, theirs was criminal. ::)
Nothing like 8 weekends of sober mail box replanting to take the fun out of it. :P

That's just a shame. :-\
I wish I lived closer so I could help Mr. Bill put up a new fence and get it painted...

Yeah, that happened in our neighborhood. One guy filled his mailbox with cement after the second round. The cops didn't think that was a smart move after the kid shattered his arm completely from shoulder to wrist.

My mom, after checking with the police, fabricated (welded) a brand new mailbox made completely out of steel piping at Florida Power where she worked. Then, (to make it legally 'ok' with the police) she put it on a swiveling base pole in the ground.
We all heard it that night... ha, ha, ha... as I'm sure every kid in the car did as well. Bats just don't play well with steel mailboxes.
And after that night, we never heard another mailbox being hit on this street again. Ah, I love my mom. ;D

P.S. After nearly 13 or 14 years, it's still outside every time I come home.

We were running over them in old $30 junkers, this was long enough ago that the standard was wood 4X4 post and paint, and in the city, mail boxes were still considered sacred. You'd think we were serial killers for the way the press wrote it. They really ramped it up after the 3rd or 4th time.
I feel for young people that screw themselves doing stupid stuff, and on the other side, but for the grace of God, could've been me. I'm always grateful if it's not fatal, and hope they aren't so hard hearted and arrogant to not learn from their mistakes.
Hopefully these little boys will: Man up, 'fess up, grow up!
Might as well grow up now by choice. Better than later by force or in regret.
Sorry to post so much, I don't run over mail boxes anymore, but I do ramble. jim

Just wait 'til next time!

It's all just fun and games - drunk driving. Until someone gets hurt or killed. What if your neighbour was outside and was hit by that drunk driver???? Stupid decisions lead to tragic results. If my kid had done this they would sooooo sorry because I would made them sorry...this is just not acceptable - period!

Damn straight Al,
I brought mine up to have self respect and respect for others and property. I made it clear to her that she knew how I was as akid and my regrets and she couldn't claim ignorance and bad upbringing cuz' she wasn't brought up abused and ignorant.
In the last twenty years or so I've relatives and friends and friends kids killed driving drunk or by drunks.
Ain't nobody heard me say what a good time it was and they should do what we used to. For me, it was just plain igornut, stupid and childish.
(I wasn't taking what you wrote as 'personal', just thought with my above confession I should clarify) jim

One morning a neighbor about half a block down called the police to report his car stolen. I found it in my front yard about daylight! Some drunk had hit it from behind and it wound up about 400' down the street in my yard. The neighbor heard a noise and thought it was the thief breaking a window to steal the car. It was so dark out they couldn't see the car in my yard. I didn't hear a thing. The whole rear end of the car was in the back seat, but the drunk still drove off and his car was found about a mile away with a busted radiator. I never did hear if they caught him. Monty
