Lot of broken, fragements, shards etc,.

My wife and I headed to a neighbors house today and scanned is property for arrow heads. Got a ton of shards and flakes. Little bit of the gray obsidian stuff too. Wealthier been so nice here lately its hard for me to spend any time at all in side. I feel like a kid all over again.

I love the obsidian. Obsidian is to you what quartz is to me. You lucky dog! The one colorless piece, that is natural glass as well, right? I have one point made of that type glass. My brother found it in the mountains. It holds a better edge than quartz.

what is crazy is that here in the Mother Lode Country Quartz is every where and these Indians only used it for ceremonial points.They traded for the obsidian.I dont know that the quartz got to where Boxtop is,but there is crystal there(obviously)

Boxtop,that is a point I see there out of the gray obsidian...I beleive?When I get over to the ranch I will snap a pic of the other gray stuff....its almost like plastic.I havent got to see the gray like you found,thanks for sharing!!

I believe the crystal is a tool. I have found a couple in that shape here in Ga made from crystal. Check the (broken) pieces to see if there is secondary flaking on the edges. Not all tools were made perfect and they used some odd shaped pieces called quickie tools to clean a kill and then just pitched them when they were done. Can I see a point out of that pile? Its the right side and it is cut off by the pic. 4th down from the top. Needs a little water on it but it shows some nice flaking from what I can see.

I can see three or four pieces that have nice work. One looks like it has an impact fracture. Good eye rock!

...that is the one I am talking about out of the rare gray obsidian...that particular type only comes from right there.Too bad that impact wasnt from the base up :laughing7:

I didn't think about your location. I guess you would have lots of quartz. I'm located on the scene of the first gold rush. Tons of milky quartz with veins of copper, iron, and every thing in between. I have found black sand and trace gold down on my family's farm. A friend of mine has found nice pickers down there. The neighboring farm to mine is actually on the market as a prospecting site. The gold veins here are really deep, and have drawn some attention in the past two years. Now that they have large equipment. I wander how the old tunnels left by the copper mining company in the 1930's will affect the next prospectors. The tunnels are 2,500 foot deep and flooded. Hate to think I bought that land to prospect. Well, with my limited knowledge. They probably know how to deal with the underground flood.
