Hello everyone

For the past few weeks, me and my physics class have been making metal detectors. We started by printing the circuit board design on the copper side of a circuit board. Then, we dipped them in acid to eat at the copper that was exposed. After drilling holes into it, we put various transistors, semiconductors, and other sciencey stuff. Afterwards, We built the coils by making three wooden circles, one smaller then the other two, then wrapping copper wire around the small one and gluing it all together. Additionally, we glued copper on it so it would not false when we moved it up an down. Then, we made a tuning device, a volume control, and a switch. Lastly, we held it all together with hot glue and tape. Nine people participated, one didn't bother to finish it, some didn't show up for the hunt, others fell apart or shorted out. Basically, mine and one other person's worked well enough for the hunt. My teacher buried around a hundred in dollar coins and quarters, plus some foreign coins. I found $37 in dollar coins, $19 in quarters (one dollar roll and the quarters were taped together), and a chocolate coin. Then I cleaned up with my DFX and was surprised to have only found nine remaining dollar coins and 4 foreign coins. Additionally, my sister showed up and used my detector to find three dollar coins.

See! Who needs noise canceling and ground balance and prospector mode? Great job on the project.

Crap... ??? What the heck did I spend $800 bucks for ??? ...crap! You must have been given an A+ :D ! That teacher needs to be nominated for Teach of the Year and this should go on the banner BTW. :blob7: Nice work, nice finds, nice post!

Keep @ it and HH!! ;D

This should go to the banner. Definatly worthy ;D

I agree with UTCoinshootr and Mud S.W.A.T Teacher of the year. You did a great job building that detector. If you follow this up and build abetter one keep this as your first proto-type. Hope you will always remember this teacher. HHHH

Sounds like you could be the next major manufacturer of metal detectors if you keep going at the rate your going. Hey, it's about time someone gave Minelab some serious competition and force them to lower their prices!! Might as well be you. LOL

AWESOME!!!

BANNER!!!!!!!

I built the heathkit too in 1984 and used it to actually find stuff...these are way better, non-kit form, raw home made boxes.

I know this was a one time project for your class, are you contemplating building advanced versions on your own? Plenty of geeks on here like me willing to help with info!

I have to agree with the rest of the TNetters. A great teacher that deserves to be honored just as you need the same.
If this isn't banner material there has never been any.
Way to go and happy hunting!!!!!

Ask any of the old treasure hunters what they would rank as their top 5 finds of all time...their own personal "banner" finds and I'll bet that that top 5 includes stuff that ain't silver or gold or maybe stuff not even worth a plug nickel. Please no offense to anyone who hasn't found this or that yet...it's that after years and years of digging, I find the items I treasure took work and dedication to get, have a great story attached to them...I treasure the HUNT more than the result.

If there was ever a great hunt, this is it...from a pile of parts to a handfull of found coins...does it get any better?

Great Job!!! Your teacher buried $100.oo and you found over half of it. That is pretty good!! I would have loved to have done something like that when I was in school. Can you make me one for my grandson? It has to be really short he is only 3 years old and likes to dig in the dirt with Grandma.

well, I don't have any the equipment of supplies to make another one- plus the store models are more sensitive than mine

I hope your grandson will find something neat someday )
