All Treasure Hunting
A Boulder County Courthouse security officer escorted Fairview Estates homeowner Todd Hunter out of the county treasurer's office Monday afternoon after Hunter tried to pay his $8,190 subdivision paving district assessment with a $7,958.58 check and $231.42 in assorted coins.

Lazy POS's. It would have took more than a fake cop to get me to leave. I'd of been on the phone with my lawyer and the television station.

Only $231 in coins? I would have paid $8000 of it in coins.

All people with coins are criminals!!!

Speaking of Courts-------------Anyone else notice the gold fringed flags they all have? Those are Admiralty flags. Google what that means when you enter "pleas" under them. Things need to change drastically in this country before it's lost.

Since when does the judicial arm of a gov. Refuse to take their own "coin of the realm?
I heard of guys putting pennies in jars of honey & paying the IRS and traffic tickets!
Oh ya that guy needs a lawyer & press backing!

Official coins of the realm then they won't accept it as payment!

I have watched Colorado go from bad to worse, what in the heck?

I thought the "coin of the Realm" was legal tender for any purpose.
luvsdux

I'm not surprised, as this action is from the same police department that botched the Jon Bonet Ramsey murder investigation! It seems, after all, their eyesight is not much more than a narrow slit at best.

I guess it's okay to discuss county politiks huh? Do as I say not as I do kind of thing?

Good. I wouldn't want my tax dollars going to pay some county employee for that time to count nuisance change because one of my neighbors was a jerk.

Maybe they should drop $600 on a change counter machine to handle one bozo that brings $230 in change? Now that would make everyone happy! :tongue3:

I doubt he was escorted out because he was remaining calm and polite. He was probably being a arse and trying to "punish" some poor clerk who had nothing at all to do with the ordinance or enforcement - and the clerk just didn't want to make six people waste their lunch-hour waiting in line behind this clever citizen while the coins were counted.

:icon_scratch: this thread is not about politics :(

as Treasure Hunters of all kinds we deal with coins.

it is about Coins & the fact they are Not Legal Tender,
Only paper is. & this is another reason we should never
switch from Dollar Bills to Coins.

If we do, Places may limit the numbers of Dollar coins
they will accept when doing business.

Back on conversation: considering,

Hunter said he had called ahead of his visit and was told by a member of Hullinghorst's staff that the office would accept a cash payment. He said his bank had counted and sealed the $231.42 in coins in the bag
.

Coins don't need to be considered "Cash"
(I tried it to pay a fine once, didn't work, so I left,
a few months later they picked me up & gave me a ride Back :laughing7:
so I paid it with cash
)

however, Did they really need to count them,
since the bank had counted and sealed the $231.42 in coins in the bag?
they probably could have just dropped them back off at the bank. :dontknow:

Why do some people assume that banks still have employees who count coins? I'm picturing a little room in the back filled with loose change and some poor soul counting and rolling, counting and rolling! :laughing7:
I'm sure all banks have Coin Star type machines that will count any amount of coins in minutes... So I'm not really sure what the bank's ( or any bank's ) gripe would be.

Correct. When I take coins to the bank, they take them into a back room & throw them in the machine.

My bank also has a Bill counter.

all courthouse money goes to a bank accout

all they need do is send it to the bank as they normally would.
If the bank comes back & says it's short, They could re bill for the difference & add a Late fee.
Problem solved.

Everyone here should be cashing in their coins as they find them because the agenda is to be a cashless society.
Give it 5 to 10 years and cash will be obsolete.
Most people I know use their debit/credit cards. I primarily use cash but I'm definitely a minority.
As long as everyone prefers to use plastic, there will be no reason for cash anymore.
Hook, line, and sinker.
Line up for your microchips!
Cheers,
Dave.

Yes I use my debit card 99% of the time.

Pay almost all my Bills online
& write checks for those I can't.
only exceptions are when I use coins,

When I sell something for cash,

Get a gift card with $$ in it,

Or take a $20 out as cash back
just to have a few bills in my wallet.

right now I don't even own a 1 dollar bill
in my wallet or even in my house.

took all my cash to the bank Thursday & deposited it all
