The LRP can manual ground balance anywhere from 0-99. If one were at the beach, the Ground Grab doesn't go below a 40 (woof can verify if I'm wrong on the number) so you must manual ground balance for optimal detector performance.
Manual ground balancing is performed in the All Metal mode only. Once set, it carries over to modes 2,3 and 4, but not C,J or A which are preset at 82.
Once in AM mode, move the arrows down until Ground Balance appear. You will see a black segment highlighted (preset at 82) and you will see a series of greyed out segments. The last greyed out segment on the right is your ground phase reading. You want to then use the + and - buttons to move the blackened segment so it covers the far right greyed segment. Two things to note.
1. The + and - buttons will move the blackened segment one segment for every 10 taps. If you hold down the buttons, it speeds up the process immensely.
2. The "greyed" out ground phase may move around some and could have as many as 10 segments in a row. We are concerned with only where the far right one resides.
While pumping the coil, the AM VCO helps in obtaining balance.
I personally use Ground Grab because I have mild soil, and even the presets on all detectors I have had worked well. But I thought this might help someone in a high mineralized area or beach hunter. Though the feature takes a little getting used to, it's nice to have on a sub $300 detector.
