What I thought was going to be a rather dry hunt, the last three weeks well have not been good to me. Last week I seen they tore down a house downtown, it was fenced off still in the process so I tried my luck today and open it was. I grabbed the detector positive about finding silver today and silver I did! About a half hour in the hunt doing ok 3 wheaties a lot of iron and than a bouncing signal but looked good, 4 inches down this popped out. I dont find a lot of rings but when I do there usually large go figure, this thing is heavy!! Can anyone help on the stone its brilliant in the sun. Finished with another 3 wheats and looking forward to hitting the lot adjacent to it next week.

The stone looks like black opal to me. Also opals are soft, and you'll notice the ring has a protective bezel to keep it from being scuffed. Good thing you found it in dry soil, they can be damaged by water. I think it's fairly modern, but it's a gorgeous find! Good job!

Sweet ring !

I'm always happy when I find a chunky silver (or gold ) ring ! and that one qualifies as CHUNKY - and with possibly a nice Aussie opal
You scored !!!

I once found a silver ring in Santa Fe ,NM. that weighed a whopping 31 grams ! ( yes a full troy ounce ) It was a Navajo "sand cast"
piece - it wasn't pretty , but hey- I gratefully added it to the pile !
I'd like to know the weight of your new opal ring !

Ill see if I can get it weighed, dont have a scale, need to get one. Maybe this will push me to buy one. And I feel the same way about this one, not at all pretty! But a great keeper for me. And that ring of yours sounds like the grandady of silver rings. Congratulations

Awesome ring! :notworthy: When you start digging, you don't mess around, lol. To me, the setting looks like it may have been created by the lost-wax method. I've made rings & other items using that method in our local community college's jewelry classes. If your stone is black opal, wonderful! HH Andi

Great ring ! HH
