Maui's a bust for me detecting.

:-\ Every morning at Daylight i have been up trying to detect here in Maui. The first morning i found a few clad quarters, dimes, one nickel and a bunch of pennies. There were also towels, sunglasses, snorkels, wallets and other stuff laying around.

Second day I found.. 2 pennies..

VLF detectors don't seem to work in wet sand, constant false signals on my Cibola.. Dry sand is ok.

They must groom the sand here, I found a total lack of junk except for a few hair pins and some rivet heads while running at max sensitivity and no discrimination at all. Found only one pull tab, at the edge of a rock and about 4 inches deep.

Tomorrow I will go to Airport Beach at Daylight and see if I can find much. It looked like it was used more than Black Rock beach. In looking at Black Rock beach the lava looks to be showing just a few feet off the sand beach, and I suspect if I would have had tanks, and a PI machine I might have done all right there. I did see one gal lose some $300. sunglasses but she was too deep for me to try and find them. Ahh well, let's see what tomorrow brings. ;)

I've heard that you are right about them grooming the beaches there everyday and that makes it difficult to find much, but theres always a chance.....
Good huntin'...
Keep safe...

If you can get to Oahu, see if you can find "Pray for Sex" beach. My father-in-law was stationed in Hawaii way back and told me that was the place he and his buddies used to go when they had the time. When I saw it in the early 90's, it was just a small, local beach. According to my father-in-law, it was the place to be back then. It got it's name because someone carved "Pray for Sex" on a huge bolder on the beach. It might be a good place to MD. Good luck!

:) Well, at airport beah I found .69 in clad, one 2 bit piece and assorted dimes pennies and nickel's. Also found a toy airplane at airport beach :)

Very little junk, 3 Corona bottlecaps and a few hotrocks. Beach appears the same as Black Rock, very short steep sand beach and at about 5ft water dept the sand levels out and changes to a lava pillow bottom with spotty coral reef growth.

Hundreds of some blasted little fruitfly looking critter which would rather die than leave you alone.

Sigh.. back to the home state tomorrow and then I have 4 more days off to decide what to do... seriously thinking of going after some Sunstone, Opal and Aquamarine :)

Man, for Pete's sake invest in a decent "beach-water" detector. Your little Tesoro's not for the beach. I'd give my right rear buttock for being where you are! There's a number of very good detectors for less than $1200 available to you and being where you are you could pay for one in one hunt!

*I came back to add; I've actually been to Maui no less than four times but never tried metal detecting there. You'd think the fancy hotels would get smart and make such items available free to their guests. :)
