most of the jstor one are not free. but lets you read one page and tells you the name of the book to buy to get the info.

Thanks, I'm familiar with both. The book "Mandan" by Brower and Steinbrueck is available free from google books.

lol i found out where you got your name from larson.
larson village a mandan town

I thought that Larson was his real name. I was talking to him on the phone, calling him Mr. Larson. Lol! He told me about the guitars, and I studied up on them. Hand made by 2 brothers! Cool name huh!

You have a fine collection going rite there. Keep them coming.

Great find there! And again- an assortment the likes of which I just can't match here in the east. That square knife intrigues me- I've found 1/2 a (knife?) but with little comb-like notches around the (unbroken) edges. It's poilshed. Gotta get a decent pic... but is yours serrated or notched- can't tell. Polished? Thanks for the look! A treat every time-
Cheers

Thanks. I may be mistaken, but I'm thinking the little square chert piece is a scraper. If you look closely you'll see that it's not bi-facially flaked. As I understand, blades are flaked on both sides of the edge. I'd say that because this is unifacially flaked, it's a little square scraper.

Here's some better pix.

I have seen uniface flake knives, but I think that the one Kelly has is a type of end scraper. Nice little find!!
