Maybe a dumb question

When hunting rolls, nickels mainly for me, is there a certain date you choose and keep everything below? Like I always save 1959 and earlier. Is this a waste? Is it just a preference for the hunter?

I always save any silver coin from 1964 or later (older). I am very fond of the 60's pennies but I think it's just a preference for me.

On your nickels the only dates with silver in them are ..1942 , 1943 , 1944 ,& 1945...... All the rest are only worth a nickel.... For me to save any nickel from 1946 and up would be a waste of time.... But if you like them save them...

yeah, I know, those 1950-d, and variant nickels, they are a waste of time, I dump all of them.....

Most nickels from 51-59 do not demand a premium. However if your a collector save what you like. I've been saving pre 60s for a while but now that I'm going to start doing a box a week it seems that I will have a hoard of them. Might only be Worth it to keep the ones in au-bu shape.

I save all teh pre 60's Nicks too...yea..they are worth a nickel....but at one time IH were worth a penny...now ..not so much. But I collect coins...i do dont it JUST for the value of them

Just to clarify, not all '42s are 35% silver. Only the ones with a mint mark above the Monticello.

1) Might be able to sell at a premium down the road.
2) they don't really accumulate that fast and doesn't really tie up your bank roll too much. If I decide I don't want them anymore Ivan just dump them. Not really a waste of time to pull them while searching for war and older nicks.

Also I like to save the pure nickel Canadian. Pre 1982 is pure nickel except for different composition during ww2 and Korean War. Also if you get really lucky, the older ones, before 1920 I believe, are silver.

The silver "nickels" are smaller than a dime.

I view nickles like i do copper cents, per coinflation Nickel $8.3113/lb = .053 per nickle which means that the nickle coin is actually worth more than a nickle in metal value. IMO I look to see nickle to continue to rise.

Pro's vs cons 1 nickle vs 5 copper cents. 1 nickle = .05345 / 5 copper cents = .0244 per copper cent nickles to cents you are better in the long run to save copper cents. But the devils advocate says they are both worth more than thier face value.
