Maybe some type of spear head with the big head and sharp point? Seems like it would do some damage. Any ideas?

Is the big end hollow?
If not, how would it attach?

That could be anything really. There's so many things in that shape made of iron that would cause some real damage in the right circumstances. There is a case of a particular iron rod that is still baffling the minds of neurologists today on why that iron rod did not get the best of Phineas Gage.
