Medical Help???

Hay, I know that we have several doctors on this fourm and they sound like good people. They sometimes even agree with me. lol.
I also know that there are a lot of old fogies like me on here. How about a medical help thread with no strings attached either way. Someone can describe a problem and a doctor can chime in with an opinion or advice. The doctor could recommend something that would help, or that the person should see a local doctor because the problem might be serious. I just had an examination for new glasses and found out that i have a catarac in one eye. Those thing come on gradually and you don't notice it. I checked with a specialist and found that I need an operation. The operation sounded bad, but only takes about 15 min to replace the lens. You are out of there in 2 hours and get your sight back the next day when they remove the bandage. Any thoughts on this idea? Frank...-

Sorry to hear that Frankn. I do believe my sight is starting to go downhill also. No I have no opinion on your request I'm not a doctor but I do have a lot of tools and a big workbench. We could probably save you a lot of money if you'd hold still though.

Hey Frank!! Best thing since canned orange juice!! I had the proceedure several years ago and it was as close to a miracle that one could imagine!! One day you can't see and the next it's as if one lifted a veil off your eye!! Painless and spectacular!! Just be certain you have a good surgeon to perform the surgery!! GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING!! You will actually be able to see what your finding!! He He!! VERDE!! They actually have lenses today that self correct and you don't have to wear glasses!!

Well, It's a walk in and out 2 hours later. The doctor has a string of PHDs . It's a Johns Hopkins unit In Bel Air Md. He said I also have Glaucoma so he will do that procedure at the same time. That procedure appears to be burning a micro size hole in the eye in the area of the colored portion to vent excess pressure. Frank...-
I think the problem is, at my age, I am fossilizing piece by piece. lol

the Mr has had both his eyes done, about 6 or 7 yrs apart. Operating heavy equipment in the sun all his life, he noticed one of his eyes getting where he couldn't see right out of it. He tolerated the procedures very well. No problems.
The first was a simple one, but the 2nd, they had to use a laser knife thingy for something besides just the cataract(maybe an astigmatism, I'm not sure atm).
His 2nd one did seem to take an extra day or 2 to heal or get his sight back to normal, from the blurry. He was wearing reading glasses before the procedures, now he is 20/20 with no glasses.

Here's the great thing! Your lens(es) (if they are like the ones the Mr got) are guaranteed for 300 years!

6 years ago Hubby had his right eye done then laser for something later. Needed eye drops for a week. All went well. Things have improved since then too.
I'm headed there, right eye is a tad blurry.
Ah the joys of aging!

" PLACE 1 DROP INTO BOTH EYES 2 (TW0) TIMES A DAY "
Now how do you split that drop so you can put it into both eyes? You would have to split it into 4 parts.

It should have read, Place 1 drop into each eye, twice a day.
The prescription was phoned in by the doctor I wonder if he had to speak in Latin.

Well that's kind of like getting the toilet paper package out of the closet and I read on the label "Made from recycled paper". Not exactly what I needed to know or think about.

I have Medicare and a United Healthcare backup that is supplied by my employer as an item in my retirement package. I get stuck with a yearly deductible of app. $150, but I also have a flexible benefit account that will cover this, I hope. This is actually 3 operations. The lens replacement and glaucoma venting procedure done in the first and a month later the venting procedure done on the other eye. The trick to keep cost down is to get as much done during the same billing year as possible.

Being 76, this is kind of a referb job on the old fossilized body. I am still very active and want to keep it that way. Hay, the teeth are next. If I can afford it I would like to get those 'snap in plates'. The kind with pins mounted in the jaw bones. I have United Healthcare dental, but I don't know if this is included.

Hay, my health has been excellent. I haven't seen a doctor in 31 years. That was my last lombard disc #4 disc op. I get one mild cold a year that lasts app one week. I can wade thru poison ivy with no regret in shorts. I walk the dogs each day for about 1 mile thru hilly fields and woods.
I can drive 600 miles a day in my MH cross country with no problem. Mother nature has been good to me. I consider myself 'Lucky'. I don't drink or smoke, but I do gulp 8 cups of coffee a day and have wiped out the supply at Dunkin Donuts on occasions. Hay, we all have our vices!
