Hit a new spot in the woods...original Meeting House area to the town next to mine. Turned up some nice finds for the short time there.

First is an 1826 Large Cent....looks like it'll clean up nicely! :D

Second one I need some help on! It's stamped metal...looks to be brass...and reads:

Thomas Wakelam Patent New York ....and has an Eagle in the center. ?? Any Ideas?? ???

I did a search and came up with a Gent from England who was a Brewer at Birmingham Brewery in 1818..nothing from the US.. :-\

It's about the same size as the Large Cent.

Thanks!

I found that he was indeed from England, and that he was a Brass Worker, specif. the lamp trade. SO maybe it's a brass seal for something cool he came up with. Still looking that up.

Chandelier Fitter in 1865. He was employed as Brass Finisher in 1881.
And it's not a US patent. I did a search all the way back for Wakelam to 1760. So maybe it was something that was brought from England to the US.

That LC is fine! Can't wait to see the cleaned pics.( Front and back) Awsome find. I'll bet there's more there.

Thanks for the information Caryl! It seems strange that it would be that new...but brass finisher make sense. The Eagle....it has a late 1700's style to it...and the way Thomas is abbreviated.... did you find the same info. I did about the Brewer? ???

Next questions is this...when were patents first introduced? The search that i was on went back to 1790....but English patents must go back much farther....right?

This is the fun part....figuring out the puzzle of the past!

Thanks for your time and information!

I'm searched out. It's def. the colonial style eagle, but I've combined searched "seal, mark, maker's mark, eagle, thom, thomas, new york, english patents, new york patents, and coin" nada. I also searched images and found nothing.

I found other wakelam relatives that did cash boxes, trunks and furniture. So , who knows

Thanks again for your effort...it's deeply appreciated!!!! :) I'll post if I come up with anything on it.

One definition of the word "patent":

In metallurgy: to heat and quench (wire) so as to prepare for cold-drawing.

very nice job on the 1826 large cent! Sure a beauty!
