This is the biggest tooth I have ever found. It was laying in the sand at the water line and it's 3 inches. I'm very pleased to have found it.

Ancient people used to think these were dragon's tongues, the fools - little did they know that these were actually the teeth of massive ocean-dwelling sea monsters that could swallow elephant-sized prey! Dragons, pfff :D That is a nice tooth!

Dang that is a trophy tooth Id hate to meet the shark that tooth came from very cool.

I do have one question do you have to put a coating on it to preserve it so it doesnt breakdown later? Its just so perfect I would hate to see it fall apart. Congrats a that find, rock

No, I don't do anything. I did hear someone say to soak in fresh water to get the salt out but I have never done this and I've had some teeth for over 20yrs. The water is only brackish around here...so maybe a fresh water soak for saltier water(?). Couldn't hurt. Go get yourself a big one!

Congratulations on your find and on achieving your first Tnet BANNER!

I think I found the owner of your tooth. :laughing7:

Good grief that is one AMAZING tooth! Can I still vote banner even though it's already one? Congratulations

Thanks HighVDI. I never imaged getting a banner - still can't believe it. I sure appreciate all the nice comments.

I for one am really glad these things aren't alive anymore! Stunning

Very cool....I guess they are fossils so it's minerals in the shape of a tooth but damn it has a perfect patina and may as well be an actual tooth...probably worth a few bucks as it really is a piece of natural art.

That thing is a beauty! Congratulations.

Nice find.

A coating of Butvar b-76 couldn't hurt it.

Great find!!!
