Metal Detecting in New Mexico

Wondered if its legal to metal detect on the Santa Fe Trail between Ute Park and Cimarron, New Mexico. Im thinking about camp out there too. I need to get out of my office (Im a Sr. Web developer). Im sick of sitting in front of the computer already! I need a good escape and explore away from the technology world!

Cimmaron Canyon is a wildlife reserve and a New Mexico State Park. The N. Santa Fe Trail did not
go up the canyon to Ute Park. It skirted the mountainous terrain west of Cimarron NM enroute to
Santa Fe.
