Metal detecting in the snow

I just got a Coinmaster GT a couple days ago and decided to try it out in the snow. I was getting hits and then I would move the snow and see what happen on the dirt and the hit would go away. Is this common or am I doing something wrong?

Maybe there was something in the snow itself? If the snow has some salt in it, it might make your detector erratic.

I suspected something like that. The snow in my yard will be gone in another day or two then I can have a search without any variables.

I tried to find some keys a few days ago when it was -5° and my Ace 250 didn't like the cold one bit... It wouldn't shut-up so I gave up and sent my friend back home with my 250lb pull magnet and told him to just drag it around in the snow and it worked

The 250 usually works fine so it must have something to do with the temp & snow.. That was the first time I've tried hunting in those conditions.
