Hello all, not really into the hard rock mining scene but I've been finding tiny tiny specimen type gold while panning/sluicing in a very small creek that starts from springs. Would it be worth crushing quartz from around the creek to see if there's gold in it? There's not a whole lot of quartz around there from what I've seen. Also does quartz have to have that black and red mineralization to have gold in it? Here's some pics of the little tiny pieces I found.

I would also be trying to source that, pan up the creek until it stops, and starting searching up on either side of the creek in the highbanks with a detector and find where it is weather out at. Has the makings of some high end specimens.

My partner found a similar looking specimen, thought at first it was something out of an old campfire. Turned out to be silver. I'll see if I can get a picture to post.

Went to the location today and collected as much quartz as I could find. (About a pan full) And I crushed it up & panned it. Nothing but pyrite dust.

Look up on the hillsides and see if you can find any quartz veins that are in place. If you find any take samples at different places along the vein including dirt, clay, quartz and bedrock and then crush and pan it out. There are also veins called blind veins which do not surface. Is there any gold in the springs?Have you gotten down to bedrock in that creek? The quartz veins may be in the creek bedrock or the veins may have completely eroded out of the bedrock leaving the species and clay behind.Check any bedrock cracks with clay and you may be surprised..maybe not.

Thanks for the reply. There's a lot of exposed bedrock. Found a vein in the bedrock in the creek but I've found crunchy gold above where the vein is in the creek. I'll test it though. There's also 2 different types of gold in the creek so it's going to get a little tricky trying to find where it's coming from... Here's a pic. The top 2 going clockwise aren't from that area. Some of the nuggets are lighter because they have quartz mixed in with them and some are solid and more rounded. image-3238407321.jpg

look for the same quartz that is on the pieces of gold you had found , then pay attention to the edges of the gold . It looks like it had traveled at least several hundred feet tumbling the edges rounded . Move up stream checking a bought every 10-20 feet you could find the source . The last pice I seen was dark and sharp edges . This haven't moved to much . And it looks to have been closer to the center of a hydrothermal vein . Look for fine powdery dirt dark in collar with very little rock or pebbles around it . If you find it it should be very easy digging fallow as deep as you can and check the sides of the hole really well .

I did come across an area in the bedrock where there's about 2 or 3 deep holes in the bedrock. The material around them is a light grey clay type material. Not sure how deep they go because it was too deep to dig with rubber boots they'd fill with water... but I thought it was kind of strange because it's the only spot on the creek with deep pockets going into the bedrock. Also black clay type stuff in one of the shallower holes. When you dig into it the whole creek turns black.. Lol

dredge or vaccume the area pools.. get into the cracks.. the smaller the specimen the further it traveled.. the larger ones dont wana move as much as easily look further upstream^^ yay! GL and my you find the GOLD!

I have been following your posts for a while now, N8 - and you have separated yourself by consistently coming up with locations that are far better than average. I would think about securing those locations, if possible. The tiny quartz/gold specimen's you posted above look exactly like what my ex-dredging partner was recovering in Kanaka creek near Alleghany, Ca. He was just downstream of world-renown hard-rock mines, containing fabulous "jewelry gold" specimen's. In short, you may be on to something really good.

This one is from a different location, unfortunately I don't think any of the locations are claimable.

I'd just keep swinging that coil and doing what you are doing N8, it looks like you've got it figured out. I personally wouldn't spend time crushing random quartz if I had a detector in my hand. Your detector is the best tool you've got for finding a pocket of gold anyway. The source could be nearby somewhere, but it could also be miles away, on someones neighboring claim, or already be a well established mine by now. Keep beeping and digging those nice speci's!
