We made two airport runs in the last week, and these tend to be lucrative for Miss halfdime. She's discovered that the floor under the baggage carousels at Pittsburgh International hide lots of treasure. Armed with a small flashlight, a tape measure and a wooden ruler, she managed to retrieve in the $6 range over the two trips. Maybe because she's on a hot streak, I listened to her detector advice this afternoon. I was at an old home site my cousin owns, filling in a third privy, when Miss halfdime asked if she could do some detecting. Naturally, I said yes and asked if she knew how to turn it on. She was offended by the question. On the XLT, the first offering is "Coins," which I always use. She wanted to try "Coins and Jewelry," which I tried briefly as a novice. Immediately, in an area I'd hunted previously, she got a good signal. Wouldn't you know, a 45 Merc! A few inches away, a 46 Rosey. Needless to say, I wandered away from the privy and started going over some areas I'd hit hard over the years. I didn't find much more in the way of coins, but I was getting signals in the different mode that I didn't get previously. For example, the last coin of the day, this 1892 Indian head penny. I was getting numbers on the XLT that I'd never seen before, and I wonder now if a different program would have been better all these years. It certainly gives me something to lay awake about tonight!
