I've hunted the yard of my parents farmhouse a few times since my last post. The farm dates back to the late 1800's.
I was searching the area where vehicles are parked when I got a mixed pulltab-coin signal and found this a couple of inches down

It's a 20% 10k gold filled university pin. It turned out to be my mother's nursing school pin which she had lost in 1998!
I'm not normally eager to return items, but she IS my mother so I made an exception this time :D
On another day, I was hunting the backyard when I got a big coin signal that was difficult to pinpoint. I figured it was aluminum junk but decided to dig it just to help clear out the yard. Imagine my surprise when I saw this in the hole

A solid sterling silver belt buckle cover! It's nicely handmade and engraved and bears the mark "sterling" The initial matches some former male occupants of the house in the early-mid 20th century.
The same day and a few yards away I found my first musketball

It's 50 cal, unfired, and in really nice condition.
Here's some other relics from the last couple of weeks

They're a horse tack buckle, a suspender buckle, half of a toy gun, and my second(!) silver plated pocket watch from this yard
I also found another hitching post ring (top) pictured with the first one I found

I've found 9 wheaties and an Alabama sales tax token, although frustratingly, no silver coins yet

In case anyone thinks I'm just vacuuming these things out of the ground, here's just some of iron pieces I've dug
Farmyard Hitchingrings resized.JPG
To give you a sense of scale, the rectangular piece at the bottom is the lid from an ammo can. Yes, this is BIG iron
And here's just a fraction of the trash I've dug up in the last few weeks

Finally, here's the backyard where most of the stuff came from

And the neighbor's Treeing Walker Coonhound, who likes to tag along on my hunts
Farmyard Junk resized.JPG
She's thinking "He's gotta dig up a bone sooner or later!"
Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting to all!

Congrats on finging your mom's pin. Those farmyards do keep you quite busy. Your trash pile looks like what I usually end up with at the end of the day and only a few clad or wheats.
