Those are awesome and my favorite type of finds!

Im glad you enjoy them. I couldnt get a good pic but 2 of the pieces are just over a quarter of an inch thick which is different than most of what I usually find. Much thicker than normal.

Lots of nice pottery there Rock. My hopes are always high when I find pottery like that.

It was a nice day it got to 75 yesterday the frogs were croaking and the snakes were sunning themselves. I enjoyed everything but the snakes. I almost stepped rite on one got a close up of him. I didnt know I could jump back that far in one leap. Learn something new everyday.

Nice finds. I've only found one piece, but I love it. It was 85 here yesterday! Didn't see any snakes, but I will keep a better watch out for them. I really don't like snakes!!

...know how you feel :blob7:...so exciting to find something! Nice finds rock, that's a Big piece to!!!

I can see that 2 or 3 of the pieces have designs on them. very nice. I like designs. I think it gives them character. How about finding a whole pot so we can see what the complete pattern looks like....that would be kool...

Glad you have cat-like reflexes Rock...maybe the snakes will go back into hiding with the cooler weather today...you find so much pottery...have you tried to piece any of it together and see if it came from the same vessel?

No that stuff is scattered all along the creek. The area I hunt is a mile and a half long. It makes you feel like you found something good. Id rather find a point or even a scraper. But I will take it if that is all I can find for now.

It was so big when I got back to my truck I set it on the seat so it wouldnt get broken. As I was trying to get my wet boots off I fell back and caught myself just in time to break it. I glued it back together when I got home.

Yep those are my favorite the ones with the designs. Just by the markings I can tell you the age. Most is Mississippian but the cord marked pieces is Woodland. I find all periods.

Almost time to make a pottery frame. You need to invite me down one day for a hunt :hello:

I know what you mean about hunting abundant pottery. I felt the same way when I was hunting the S.C. coast. It was everywhere- and dare I say, I almost got 'tired' of finding it. Now, finding a whole bowl??? That's a different topic! That said, around here, where there's stuff to be found with every tide and wave, I'm always happy to find pottery- especially if it has just washed out- and not as weather-beaten as what's been in the water for a while. And it's always better than nothing! HH! Yak
