I did 5hrs on one of my fave roman sites. I hunt this field for 5 years now every spring and fall. Still some finds to make even with competition. I just have to be faster than them... :laughing7:
I wonder how many big finds turn up from time to time. I thought i had cleared everything big... The Bronze to Silver ratio is amazing this year about 25 to 1! When cleaning the finds i had a second look at the 'Un Centime'. I rarely look at these coins twice, this got my attention because of the stunning condition. Paris mint 'L'an 6' coins go for more than $100 in worse condition... The beautiful Denarius of Julia Mamaea Augusta minted 222-235 AD more than 1500 years older rarely fetch that much. Other finds were 4 Roman bronzes, fibula, ring and a bronze thinghy i first thought stylus. Another pic shows how much roof tile frags and bigger pottery shards sticks in the potatoe harvester every harvest. It will fill a trailer....

Fresh harvested roman silver...
Julia Mamaea, Augusta, 222-235. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 2.62 g, 7 h), Rome, 230. IVLIA MAMAEA AVG Diademed and draped bust of Julia Mamaea to right. Rev. FELICITAS PVBLICA Felicitas seated left, holding caduceus in her right hand and cornucopiae with her left. BMC 659. Cohen 24. RIC 338.

mein Herr, do you ever get tired of just finding great stuff?

don't you long for the days we have, digging pull tabs and clad?

Oh, forgot to post, had a pulltab too. :tongue3:

And this are roughly 160 pounds nonferrous metal of WWII trash dug in 2 seasons + a couple hundred nails.

Always a good feeling when you are still able to pull finds from an area you've detected for so long. Just goes to show a place is never hunted out.

To be honest, this comes from an area we didn't done that much as the rest of the field. :occasion14:

Now that's a beautiful looking page of finds, congrats on the silver and the bronzes. Cool ring and Fibular, what's the long bronze piece on the side?

Thanks! I really don't know. By the look it's roman i hope Crusader has an idea.

Congrats on saving the Chi Rho Alpha and Omega coin.
Have you ID-ed the emperor?
Don.......

Thanks Don, not many found before. I'm very happy to have one in better condition in the collection. IDing is difficult and needs someone with more knowledge than i have. Maybe Crudad is able to say more but the portrait is fairly shot...

What is the diameter of the 'chi rho' coin?
I think it might be safe to say the coin is from the period about 350 AD; during the reigns of Magnenius, Decentius, Vetranio, Constantius II and Gallus.
Don.....

Don.....

I guess 22mm in undamaged condition with a weight of 4.2 grams.

More pics, not necessarily better...

So the attrition should include the abbreviation "AE-2"; designating coins having a diameter between 21 and 24 mm. Maybe that will help the experts to ID.
Don...
Magnentius Don,MAGNENTIUS, Perhaps Treveri 352 AD. AE23 CHI-RHO, Alpha and Omega, monogram of Christ. As you say Chi-Rho (Christian Symbols) Alpha & Omega.
