With all the cool button and coin finds I think I'm gonna throw together a sifter and really go through that stuff. I found a few wheaties. If even one dime was dropped....

Those finds definitely put you in the era for finding some silver,Id just get after the rest before spring time gets here and the creepy crawlers get back into full swing

I don't like spiders and snakes, and that ain't what it takes...

Nice digging crawling etc. keep it up .

You've got to check cellars, especially one with dirt floors. I had a friend whose father told him when he was small and had to spend time in the basement with his mother she would give him a box of gold coins to play with. Apparently to keep him busy. A small kid playing with gold coins on a dirt floor. What could possible go wrong ???

That would be amazing. I'm not completely sure yet but I think it has a cement bottom. But I would say at least 100 more cool bottles and after I make my sifter I bet I will find a bunch of wheaties, buttons, and brooches. Who knows what else. I think it's worth doing though. Plus all the trash in it is gonna bring me around 125 at the scrap yard.

Awesome token

Thanks for all the replies. This is gonna sound terrible, but I had my .45 ACP with me and the only reason I didn't use it was because there are way too many cool bottles :) so I was nice and relocated them instead.

LOL I would have guessed the thought of catching a ricochet, blasting your eardrums, or possibly causing the cellar to cave in would have deterred you before the bottle thoughts?

That's a good point but you have no idea how much I love my bottles. My wife would be more than happy to tell you all about it :)

Am sure it is a blast to find an old cellar also. I found an old homestead on the land next to ours, the landowner (I have permission to be on his land) did not even know it was there and has no clue about it. The little bit of walls left are very makeshift looking of whatever materials they could find in the area for rocks, and many different types of bricks and cinderblocks and such. A little ways away from the house is a kind of teardrop shaped depression in the ground on the side of a hill that seems to have caved in. Almost makes me wonder if it is worth digging to see if it was a possible caved in cellar and what goodies maybe in it. This area was also frequented by moonshiners back in prohibition.

I ran into a depression exactly like that at the place I am hunting and dug it right away. It was the trash pit for all the house goods. So far about 20 bottles from the 19th century and at least 100 from the early 20 century. Back then they did not go very far to throw away trash. Dig that sucka and message me later. Good luck man!

I was already a couple hours into my dig when I found the first one. I know my snakes pretty well and they were all non poisonous. Just used a stick and put them in another whole. They were super slow anyway. It was too cold for them. Maybe y'all will think it was worth it when I finally finish cleaning and posting everything. That is if you are into relics and bottles. Those are my main two passions. Thanks for looking and good luck out there.

good on ya mate for not killing em

I used to play with Indian cents in my sandbox. I can't wait to MD that, still in the same place, but no clue that it was an old sandbox.

Congratulations

Glad you didn't kill the snakes and just moved them away. They are such beneficial members of our environment and so misunderstood.

Man, looks like you had a nice day. Better having snakes around now then in the summer when they are really active!
