Here are some more things that I jumped off the John Deere and found
Can you tell me about these?
All information would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Stevie

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

Nice stuff for sure! Looks Mississippian culture to me. Dorkfish is very knowledgeable on that type of stuff. Hope he chimes in.

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

Sorry for the double picture
The enlarged picture is almost exactly actual size
Thanks, Stevie

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

wow are you really plowing a mound?

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

unreal museum quality bone pieces, thanks for sharing, top shelf.

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

I have found stuff while I was plowing too. Instead of jumping off the old John Deere, I jump off the old "ford". One of my food plots is on an old Indian site and I plow up stuff all the time. Probably 1/5 of my collection has been found after plowing and a good rain. Over in the delta where my duck camp is you find all sorts of of stuff, bones I am sure some are human but they have been plowed over for 75 years and stuff is scatterd to hell and breakfast. I feel quite sure that those finds are genuine. Good job Stevie...d2

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

the bird reminds me of a woodpecker, which sybolized war to them.those are very interesting and thanks for posting them. jamey.ive herd of mounds that got plowed down way back in the day.how old is your farm. jamey

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

This has probably been used as a cornfield up to 100 years ago
the 18 pieces shown took me about 30 years to find
this averages about one piece every 2 years
I have found points and they are all very small
this is a 40 acre flat field with no mounds
these pieces were scattered with no particular order
Thanks to runtree for the website- I have a pail of junk(I think) and it might have a couple of broken arrow straightening wrenches
now that I have seen a picture of them
A ten foot duckfoot pulled by a 26 HP 1940 model A john Deere will run at 4 inches deep (it don't have enough power to pull it deeper
I will try to get some help to post a picture of some arrowheads
Thanks

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

the points posted above were found walking the surface many times throughout last summer
the bottom row 3rd from the right is a duncan hannah
4th from the right is possibly a McKeen?
the coin is a new nickel

Re: More Xtra Cool Bone Artifacts

Very cool Bone artifacts larson1951. I'd say the small pieces with the cross hatch markings are game pieces. The long pieces like the one you posted on another thread and the Bird Effigy piece are more than likely Hair Pins. I'm not sure what the culture is in North Dakota that would have produced these items, but I hope that Neanderthal(Matt) sees this thread and chimes in. He is very knowledgeable and may know the age of these pieces.

Runtee, I have only found a few fish hooks but never the same kind of construction as the 3 you have posted
If you look at my last frame you can see that the 2 largest hooks show different types of bone
one was made out of a hollow round bone and one was made from maybe a thick large rib
Thanks for the comparison
BTW, do you have any more ND or SD artifacts for comparison?
This website is new to me, I discovered it about a week ago and
I really enjoy it,
Thanks, SB
