et me start by saying, thank you to so many people on here for coming along the ride with me. Its been wild this year. I received 3 banners, but 1 really didn't count in my eye's. That being the 1794 liberty cap LC.
Most people only voted when the thought it was the 93, like me..
But thank you anyway.
I have been thinking these last few days. This crazy obsession we have comes with a cost. For me, I have neglected my business this year, Haven't spent as much time with the kids, as I have in the past. And for what??? A merk dime.. lol.
Detecting is one thing, but put it together with, laying in bed with the Ipod and looking at maps, old homesteads, and reading about early settlements. Looking at books of artifacts and military buttons hoping and dreaming of finding one, or a dozen. .Then you go out and detect for hours, come home tiered and dirty. If you didn't find anything good it stops there. But on the other hand... If you have some keepers, here we go. You have the cleaning, looking things up, find out about things you never knew.. My wife is so tired of me sticking a magnifying glass in her eye and saying LOOK how cool is this??? Lol
Then comes the pictures. And damn it they never come out as good as you want them.
Then the post, in between cooking dinner and doing homework. .
Its alot. I believe this hobby is for the retired folk. Or less obsessed. Lol
But I guess that's what makes us good relic hunters???
So this year I made a promise to myself and my family, not to be as crazy. I'm planning on hunting less.
Maybe only getting out a couple times a month. Boy is that going to be hard..
So this is my new years promise.
Enjoy the pics, there's alot of them.
George
Ps, with that said im heading downstairs to play legos with my daughter..

Looks like you had a nice ride in 2015 Vino. Good luck in '16

Now that really sucks that year had to end for you Vino, since you've been riding a such nice wave for a good while. Beauty results, and all the best for the 2016 season.

Those are killer finds Vino. Just picking 3, I have to choose the seal as my fav with the 1880 gold coin next and then the carved die.

You're right about sacrifice. I started in 1990 and then did the family thing for a couple decades. My wife and I worked hard for years on end to save and made plans to spend time together. We chose to hunt for for the next 2 or 3 years - all season. Its awesome that she and I can spend time metal detecting. Never saw that one coming.

For me its the thrill of the hunt and the love of the outdoors. Its like a church for the soul, walking the creeks and fields among nature. Must be the thrill that keeps us going because we as detectorists are never satisfied. "I want more". lol.

Man that pile of history you saved is incredible George. I don't think I've ever seen anyone dig amazing relics and coins with the consistency you did last year. Seems like every time you went out I was getting a phone call followed by pics of your unbelievable new discoveries. And don't think that I didn't enjoy every minute of it. And 2015 was also special as we finally got a chance to meet and hunt together, and as if that wasn't good enough you go and put me onto a spot where I dug my very first 8 reale that was such a thrill. I'm usually accused of being a ho-hum hunter even when I pop a good one out, but you and Brad witnessed my hand shaking a bit during the picture taking session while I was holding that baby.... haha! Anyway, you worked had for and deserved everything you found this year, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Sorry to hear you won't be getting out as much this year, but I respect you for making the decision to put your family first. And with that kind of karma, no telling what you might unearth this year. I'll be rootin' for ya buddy!

George, it's been a great year for you, I totally understand what you mean about the obsession, since october I said I wasn't gonna try so hard and get out so much, let's see if I can hold up my promise to myself, thanks so much for getting me on that site that produced my oldest ever spanish, I had a blast hunting along side ya, best of luck on your 2016, even if you get out less I'm sure you will continue to kill it!

It's an excellent year like that, that makes it all the more difficult to slow down. But, one REALLY needs to keep abreast of what they're "losing" as well. The one commodity that every one of us has in limited/finite amount, namely, time. All we may have is today, this hour, this minute. It can all change in one single heartbeat. Best to choose wisely your priorities.

Nobody can tell anyone what theirs should be, that's something between you and the Lord. Still, remember, the stuff you dig up has been there for hundreds of years! If you have children, they are the key focus. Everything else can wait, they can't. IMHO

Enjoy them while you can! I know, all I have left is time. :dontknow:

Great year, George!

^ very well said gary

Amazing George! I had forgotten all the incredible things you had dug this year. I remember getting excited each time a picture text came to my phone or a new post showed up from you in today's finds... so seeing it all in one spot is just awesome man. You dig some of the nicest condition buttons possible. I didn't realize how large that 3 Einen Riches Thaller was. Its the size of a half dollar! Maybe when the kids get a bit older they will want to come with you and detect. That would be some really quality time sharing the discovery of saving history together... it's sort of like doing homework with them... they will excel in US History in school. haha

Can't wait to see what 2016 has in store for you. Happy New Year!

Vino, you had an excellent year, and now that you have a good dug collection with some great finds it's not a huge deal if you only add some here and there.... it will all add up over the next 20 or 30 or 40 years.

Thanks Gary,
And I really like the seal also
Thats why I took a pic of it by its self.. My second is the US belt plate that has the 83 reg carved in the back. That is pretty special to me..
You know im subscribe to your YouTube channel, and really enjoy watching your vids.
This year I plan on do more of that.
You and your wife make a great team. Here's to 2016, Health and Happiness to you and yours..

Thanks Bill,
You have been my inspiration. What you put into this lifestyle, and the writing you do has inspired alot of people. Im very happy to call you a friend, and enjoy are passion together.
Glad you were along on the ride with me.
Here's to a great 2016..

George, the words you speak are all too familiar. The hunt, the finds, the cleaning, and the time it takes away from other things. I do agree it's a sport better suited for retirees and if not, people with a good work-life balance. I've struggled greatly with the exact thing but in the end found something that works for me - about 20 to 30 minutes, 3 days a week. Anywho, that's all besides the point....

What a year bud. I've been there when you've pulled a few of them finds and experienced the excitement first hand - albeit only few of the many up there. I can only (sort of)imagine the feeling of having a year filled with all of your stellar finds. Just amazing the research and detecting talent you bring to the sport.

Now I know we throw it back and forth in jest, but for 2015

YOU DA MAN!!!!

To many more!

Steve

I forgot that plate had the 83 carved in it. Yes, that personal aspect really is what I strive for too. :occasion14:

Those vids will be valuable someday when we're all broken down and can no longer hunt.

Thanks Chris,
I was a blast seeing you pulling out that reale. You were breathless. And couldn't even hunt anymore. .lol
Thanks for being there..

That's an incredible year George. I always thought you must have one heck of a crew to be able to take off work so much:tongue3:. I am glad you have decided to step back and reorganize the priorities, both for your family's sake as well as the rest of us Pennsylvania hunters that would like to find something:laughing7:

Great year, George!

Wow how true Gary.
I know we dont comment on each others post much. But what you just said touched me.. Cant believe a silly guy that plays with lizards just gave me a very inspirational speach. Lol
No seriously, thank you. Its so true that all we have is this moment.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. I hope this new year is full of good surprises for you.
George

Ah buddy, preaching to the choir; I won't try to kid you, it's kind of tough when you try to juggle priorities.
I've been on that road and sailed through the smooth places and took the damage on the rough patches.

Having said that, balance and choices rule. I work hard when I have to, love the important people in my life more than ever, and detect like mofo when ever the time is right!

The roll you have had and will no doubt continue was and is an amazing one !
Some of the best this site has seen!
Well done and congratulations on your past and future hunts!

Ps Tell your family your family you love them more than detecting, besides, if it wasn't for them none of the rest would have been possible.

What a great year end post George, I'm seriously amazed at the variety of quality finds you made. Colonial coins and relics, military finds, GOLD COIN, piles of silver, and the list goes on and on lol. Minus finding a huge cache, it's about the best year detecting a guy could dream of. Congratulations on being a huge success!!

As for the time factor, I hear what you're saying. Definitely don't want to miss time with family, that's the most important thing. However, depriving oneself completely of what they have passion for isn't healthy either. Gotta find that balance. Toward the end of my season I made a deal with my wife that I would only detect after work once a week, and one full day every weekend. It's tough, but hopefully I can make it work. It'll be nice to start the 2016 season with 10 solid days of digging in England.

Also, thanks for the advice and taking time to help me with the Deus. You rock buddy.

Wow, 2015 was a good year for you buddy! I enjoyed looking at every one of those photos. I hope our SC trip can add a few goodies to the 2016 end of year post lol. Congratulations George!!
