My 6th Coin from the 1600s...and the Oldest of the Bunch!!!!

[romeo-1]

I went for a quick hunt in my "stand-by" beside my house...1st target was a 1st for me. It's a French Liard. The other side is smooth so I can't give a date but best guess would be mid 1600s. I may be able to pull a date with a little cleaning.

I guess that's being on the board!

1655, 56, 57, or 58.

Doesn't even matter anymore...IP gave it a date range so I am happy with that.

I would hit that pasture with a passion, Patrick. It is close to your home and produces Colonial relics. You are living the dream, my friend. Now, if you could only get Iron Patch away from his coffee pot, maybe he would find something.

Even on a decent liard the date can be tough to see it's so small, so probably very little chance for that one.

Oh yeah...i've hit this field hard and it's always given me something postable. It's funny because I think of it as my "beat site" but it always produces...

I like IP's call; similar to this one:

Don.....
Adding: I believe the "E" is the mint mark for Tours, France.

Great find, congrats!

Good job, cool coin.
I got my oldest today too, can't read the date either, but it's still the oldest. Always nice to beat records.

Nice coin Romeo. Did it clean up any?

[MaineRelic]

Congradulations on the Liard Romeo High on my wish list since I am close enough to colonial french territory to have a decent chance to eventually turn one up . HH MaineRelic

Find the early sites in those areas and you'll dig some great silver including cobs. It's the type of site all mine are from.

That's as clean as it will get...if I even get it wet the detail will slough right off. It's starting to de-laminate on the edges so into a 2x2 as is.
