It's really starting to look like winter's going to end; the ground is thawed and all the moisture is forcing coins I missed last fall out of hiding. At an old farmhouse I was offered last fall, I was back at it today to open another season. I got out a couple weeks ago, but did more clearing than detecting (at another site) and only managed a few relics. Today counts because I found some older coins (19 and 19S wheats) and silver (45D Washington). These were found in an area that I did very carefully last fall, but all the moisture in the soil and perhaps some position shifting gave me better signals today. The quarter may have been on its side; it rang up 76 when a silver quarter usually chimes in at 87. When I saw that glint of silver, I was hoping at least Barber; last fall, I found an 02 quarter and 16 dime, along with a Franklin half and several war nickels. There were lots of old wheats, too, so today's pair were typical. Every time I'm there, I keep glancing over where I know the privy was; one of these days, I want to give that a shot!
