My best day yet! 3-3-11

Where to begin... I stopped at a bank today about 70 miles from my house and asked for halves and large dollars.

The teller says "I have $13 in my tray and $45 out back". I say "I'll take them all and if you have any large dollars I'll take those too."

She says "no we only have the gold dollars". So I politely tell her that I don't collect those, but thank you anyway. I'll just take the halves.

She then goes behind a counter (guess this was out back) and bends down. Then says something that made my day. "Oh yeah, some of these are silver!"

I try to hold a straight face and say "Great, I hope there are some dates that we need for the collection".

I try not to mention "The S Word".

she puts up her $13 from her tray first. Clink Clink Clink Clink I hear that magic sound.... Then grabs a bag of loose halves with 1 roll.

I see 3 or 4 silvers right off the bat.

I pay her and leave. While driving to the next bank I go through the bag and dig out 7-40%, 3-90% and a 1998-S clad proof.

I opened the roll and let out a laugh. There were 8-40%

I stopped at the next bank and they had $12.50 in halves. 3 were 40%

This was my best single haul in a day in the 2 months I've been enjoying this hobby.

21 keepers out of $70.50 worth of halves. Happy day today for sure!

perhaps she referred to the presidential dollars to "gold" and the half dollars to "silver", otherwise she would have most likely picked the good ones out, especialy with all the media ads for selling your silver coins 1964 and older. (at least in my area)

Yup, around here people call the non gold dollar coins silver dollars. Just because they are silver in color. Not from the composition.
