My best day!

This is my first year hunting. 5 months and 3 days now so I have a lot of firsts. Today was one of those days! I went to go do a beach hunt but the location I was going is still closed. I parked by that area and decided to hike into the trees. Followed some trails and found some clad along the way. Then I found a large grinding stone which was very cool. I had to leave and started hiking back to the car. I found an old site on the way back that has great signs, purple glass, broken plates, broken whiskey bottles. The area is fairly small and had a lot of iron. I swing the 6” coil slowly over the iron and the Nox locks onto a solid repeatable signal. I dig some dirt and out pops my first Barber dime! (3rd silver I’ve ever found) I really want to stay but have to leave to pick up my daughter from practice.

I get my daughter but still have that urge to look. Take her home and decide to go to an area near my house. I’m still feeling lucky. Start swinging the 6” coil at the new location and get a solid dime signal. I’m thinking clad or trash because the signal is so strong. Try my pinpointer on the surface, no signal. Pop the surface open and put the pinpointer in the hole. It lights up. Dig a little deeper and out comes a seated dime! Another first!

Great finds hunt that spot hard and around it. This hobby is very addictive and the good thing is its fun keeps you healthy physically and mentally and you get paid while doing it. Those big grinding stones can be worth some big bucks these days. Well done my friend Tommy

Oh man I’m so happy for you!!! I’ve hunted 3 1/2 and have only found 1 seated dime. Congratulations on that Barber too. Now there’s no turning back you are officially HOOKED!!!

I can’t see the mint mark on the seated. The 1900 Barber is from the San Francisco mint.

The grinding rock probably means it was a permanent camp for the Indians or a summer camp, that would be a great place for finding pottery or arrowheads.We knew of a place in San Diego county like that and my Mom actually found an obsidian flake bead from a necklace searching the area and I still have arrowheads from there.My Mom used to make tables from the broken pottery we found there, we would find enough to fill gunnysacks.

Very nice finds congrats! It took me years to find a seated then found a 2nd a month later. It took me even longer to find my first barber dime which is funny because they are found pretty often. There are other people who hunt many many years before finding seated so you definitely had a great day in my book! You should bring that grindstone home with you next time!!

I’d love to bring a grinding stone like that home. It would take some serious machinery to do it. That boulder is probably 4 tons.
