Went 2 days ago with a friend to another yet, hunted out roman area...the second target of the morning was this:





Claudius (AD 41-54), Denarius, Lugdunum, AD 46-47, TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P VI IMP XI, laureate head right, rev S P Q R / P P / OB C S in three lines in oak-wreath, 3.83g (RIC 41)

you can see the last one was sold at $4600!!!

Amazing, still cant belive my luck!!

after that just a couple of modern buttons and thats it

WOW ! $4600, now that's a day in dirt.

Did you recognize it as a valueable coin right away (when dug), or after you got home ? Just curious.

I has no clue!
I remembered from a video of Chicago Ron that they found a gold coin from the same emperor, and that it was special, but nothing else.
I think out of this emperor this is the most uncommon of this type, and there are several with the similar lettering on the back.
I'm still in awe, I get it out of its hiding place very two hours, to see if it's still there...
And it's tiny too...go figure!

The one that sold for the big bucks was much nicer, but it must be £1000 coin!

This one is still as it came out of the ground, not even water over it.

I agree the one on the auction is nicer, but in my opinion the value on this one it's a little higher than 1000, however I don't know.
The only other example I saw online sold in 2007 for 12000 !!

I'm going to have it appraised, and I'll find out for sure.
