Needed a fix so I called my neighbor who owns a horse farm and asked him if I could hunt his property. He said sure. Last time I was there I gave him a 1836 LC that I found. Always a good idea to give something back to the land owner. Anyway, the black flies here in CT. are fierce so I kept a cheap cigar lit to keep them away. I almost gave up, but I hung in there. My first signal was a button about the size of a nickle about two inches down, it had a eagle on it so I assumed it was military and put in my pouch. The next few targets were the usual bullits and scrap metal. Then I found a 1909 indian head penny. I was thinking please have an S mark. I put that into my pouch and left. The indian cleaned up nice but no S mint mark. Oh well. Now my attention turned the button, the eagle looked odd compared to other buttons I have found. I ran it under some hot water and the eagle turned into a pelican. Very odd. The back showed a scoville co. mark so I started my research from that point. Long story short, I have found a Louisiana Confederate coat button, in very good condition I might add, Worth up to 300.00 bucks according to some websites I checked. I am pumped. I called the land owner and asked what they want me to do with it . He said finders keepers, so now I'm really pumped. Whats that button doing in CT. . What a great hobby this is. So thats my story and happy hunting.
