Spring is slowly coming here in New York but I am still snowed/mudded out of a number of sites. I received permission to detect an area at the local YMCA that once had a 1940s house and is used now as a summer parking area. Of course - I wasn't expecting much but thought I would get some practice in. I had an hour today and was getting the expected bottle caps, pull tabs and modern change.
About 45 minutes in I got a good copper hit at about 5-6 inches but thought it was likely a copper memorial or maybe...just maybe..I thought I would be fortunate enough to score a wheat penny
Needless to say I was pretty shocked when the very dirty and nearly unidentifiable coin popped out!
Very worn - but the date is there and I am very happy to have my 2nd oldest coin ever!
These unexpected discoveries make me enjoy doing this even more
Also got $.44, a Ford car key and maybe an old buckle piece?
