Detector(s) used
ACE 250
Well, on my third day of detecting, I finally found some coins. I went over to the playground section of the park. The whole park is EXTREMELY trashy. I get beeps every three steps or so. I finally decided to discard any signal that keeps hopping.

Went to the playground, under the monkey bars knowing I would find coins. Some kids were very interested, and I let them help. I pinpointed and tried to figure where the coins were. The kids scraped the woodchips out of the way, and kept the loot as long as it wasn't old!

Then I moved on. I turned the sensitivity on my ACE 250 WAY down, to like 2-3 bars, and swept. Found two pennies and a dime, each 2-4 inches down. It isn't much, but it is a start! The pennies are 2006 and 1987, while the dime is 2004.

Not a great day, but it was my first. The thrill of digging and FINALLY coming up with a coin was great! Now on to the good stuff!

Welcome to T-Net...Letting the Kids who are interested participate is always cool. You'll master that machine soon enough...HH

Welcome to TNet..you got the fever I can tell! Don't forget to check the schools (especially where there's a soccer field). You'll find MUCH loot there.

HH,
Nat

It's not as easy as the ads make it look but every time out you'll learn a little more and get better at it. A lot of folks seem to spoil the fun for themselves with self imposed pressure. Sounds like you're in the right frame of mind.

Nice start, more will follow!!!

Welcom to T Net...you have the bug now :tard: things can only get better

There is nowhere to go but up now.
Good luck.

Welcome to TNet. Congrats on your first hunt. Things will get better the more you hunt.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

As far as having the right frame of mind, I hope so. I got a little frustrated the second day out, finding lots of trash, but I had read a lot of the forums, and knew that you have to not only learn, but you have to dig the trash to find the good stuff!

I didn't start this hobby with the idea of making a fortune. If I manage to even pay for the detector I will be more than happy! I started it because my doctor said "Get some exercise...walk." I have a couple bad discs, and grad school put weight on. Bad combo. Thing is, I hate walking because it is so boring! I thought that this hobby would be ideal, because I am walking, and doing what is essentially deep knee bends repeatedly, but I am also doing something FUN! Now that I have found a few coins, I am hooked, and can't wait to get back out there (even though I am serious pain right now).

With three days under my belt, and learning, the best bit of advice I can think of is.. don't expect to find the motherlode. In fact, don't expect to make money at all yet. You are basically in school, and learning. You are a student, and the rewards are, in all likelihood, yet to come. Learn the machine you use, try and predict what will come out of the ground. Is it foil? A pull tab? A penny? (by the way, pennies can be darned hard to locate in all that dirt!). Sooner or later I know the surprises will come. I have had a few, none valuable. I found an old metal ash tray, and wondered of its origin.

I hope you all are right, and that some day the rewards, those good pulls I see on this site, will happen. I especially hope this will happen because if I find some things of value, I can buy other things, like a sniper coil! God, I AM hooked, aren't I?

well your hooked now. Now where ever you go you'll be thinking "I sure would like to detect there". People will start thinking you have a one trac mind. But, thats okay you have plenty of company.
