Detector(s) used
White's MXT
Hello everyone!

I believe I may have found my first gold! YES! :hello2:

Now, I don't want to get too excited because it might not actually be gold, but I have a strong feeling it is. There are no markings on the inside, but it has a very soft surface to it and there are some "real gold-looking" scratches on it. It also has a very prominent visual weld on the inside although you can't feel it when the ring is on. It weighs 7 grams.

Here's the interesting thing: I started metal detecting in June. (I bought a White's MXT with a spare DD coil.) I have been using both the stock and DD coil with great success, finding all kinds of silver and old copper, bronze and other fun stuff in the ground. But all along I had been planning to buy a 10 x 12" Excelerator (S.E.F) coil. I just wanted to wait to see how I liked the hobby before buying any more equipment. Well, I definitely like the hobby. In fact, I love it. So after reading a lot of positive reviews and getting people's great feedback, I ordered the SEF coil. I also bought a Lesche digger to replace my gator (which is beaten to a pulp now) and a pair of Gray Ghosts to get better sound. They were all great investments.

And here's the kicker - I just received the new stuff just yesterday. Last night after work, I went over the the post office to get the box, then went out to one of my regular parks and found a ton of pennies and nickels that I had previously missed with the other coils. Then tonight I went out to another site (old school from 1910) and found this gold ring! Now, I'm not saying I owe this gold find to the SEF coil, because I most probably still would have dug the signal had I been using the stock 9" coil or the DD coil, but it is an interesting situation, that's for sure! No doubt I'll be using this SEF on a few of my previously hunted sites to see what else (if anything) I can scrape from those areas. It really does seem to work very well.

Anyway, just super glad to finally get the gold monkey off my back. Ironically, just last week I found a massive "gold" ring at another old park, and my heart was racing until I read the "HEAVY ELECTROPLATE" message on the inside. This (hopefully real) gold ring more than makes up for it!

I promised my first gold to the wife, and I'm still waiting for her to get home from work. Is she gonna be happy! :icon_thumright:
