My first hunt, coins, silver, wheaties!!!!! With my AWESOME Garrett Ace 250!!

Ok, my detector arrived while I was at work. I got home at 1pm, unboxed my md, and went 5 feet out the door. Within the first 20 minutes, I found my first coin. A 1979 penny. Then i kept getting this wonderful beep, and wouldn't you know it, a 1950 quarter, then 3 wheat pennies 1935, 1945, and 1951. Also a nickel from 1956. Total for the 2 hours, 58 cents.

Can't wait to see what you find on that farm! If you enjoyed finding that quarter, just wait til your first Barber or Standing Liberty. Who knows, maybe on the farm. Look under the clothesline!

Doing it right the first time eh ? Filming AND finding a silver coin when the machine is barely warm out of the box. That doesn't happen very often. At least you didn't have to dig up 100 pulltabs before you found something to hook you

VERY cool first day detecting...congratz! I also have an ACE250...love it! I've only been detecting since May and have found so many cool things with it, I'm up to 9 silver coins now, 5 silver rings, 1 gold ring, a couple broken gold bracelets, an 1851 large cent! (my fav. find!) a nice silver brooch...so many other cool odds and ends...man I love this hobby!

Congrats!
It takes some months to find there first silver coin, you did it in minutes. Pa. is a good place to find lots of old coins. WTG an keep us posted on your future finds.

That's awesome for your first day...heck, thats a good day for us more "experienced" detectorists. My first silver was a quarter too...1940. So far, I seem to be building a set of quarters by year. I've found 5. They are 1939, 40, 41, 42, and 43. Odd how they're coming up to form a set by year.

A rosie is a Roosevelt dime, the design that is currently being made. They began minting Roosevelts in 1946 replacing the Mercury dime design. All US dimes, quarters, and halves were 90% silver up tp and including 1964. Halves were 40% silver through 1970.

You might want to consider purchasing a coin book such as the Red Book. It has a lot of info, including approximate values.

Off to a great start. You have a nice detector and live in a great place to detect. You should do well. I would also recommend purchasing a Red Book. Should only be about $15. You will be amazed as to how much there is to coin collecting.

The scratches you have on your Quarter are most likely from rubbing the dirt off the coin. Silver is a soft metal and rubbing dirt off the coin is like taking sandpaper and wiping the coin. It takes a while and at first you get so excited that you just want to see what the coin is and rub it. Resist the urge. Carry a bottle of water with you and when you dig the coin pour water over it to get the dirt off.

Thats better than me in two days. And oh yea my shovel broke in under 5 min. I use my wifes gardenong tool now. Great finds.
