If I could even find a IHC i'd be happy!

A cool find for sure, As said above coins with holes in them usually have a story that goes along with them, Special Date, Good luck, or maybe just away to make sure they had at least the price of a meal, Go back and find the rest of them..........HH

I wonder when the practice of holing coins went out of vogue...I don't recall ever getting a holed coin in my change, though I have seen many older ones dug. I remember me and my friends holing a couple of quarters once as kids back in the 70s to try and fool a candy vending machine, but it didn't work :laughing7: I wonder if those quarters are still in circulation somewhere :dontknow: Now those are coins with a story! :laughing7:

Based on my area I tend to think this coin was drilled in late 60's or 70's and worn as some kind of jewelry then. It was buried and I remember thinking it was foreign because of the size, yet dirty enough to where I couldn't see the Indian head.
Folks have raised some good points, though. A drilled coin has actually lived two lives, I guess. First as a coin and then as jewelry. And now its part of my hoard.

The picture makes me think it was holed a long time ago. It could have been worn as jewelry, but more likely it was holed so or wouldn't become lost. Coins had much more buying power back then, so people really didn't want to lose them. They would hole them and keep them on a string.

No kidding? I've started to notice others finding old holed coins. This turns things around a bit. Wish I had marked the spot better now. %&#@!

This one has a personal touch to it. My first Indian Head was an 1887 but almost beyond recognition. Reminds me of my first and only Buffalo find too, date completely rubbed off. I was happy though I kept saying, FINALLY I find one...and I can't even date it...GRRR! Why me? So, I have this 'first time with a flaw' luck all the time it seems. Perfectly legit find though! Nice work!

Gotta take the bad with the good, and that's not to bad! Indians are hard to find to be truthful. Congrats

Only when you get a very rare coin that is holed or dinged by the plow can you lament the damage lol. Still a first, and still old. That's what counts in this hobby: the history.
