Ok, my first ever Merc, plus some recyclable metals came from South East St. near downtown Raleigh NC. this AM.

There`s a W on the obverse / front side of this coin.
Does any one know if this is West Point NY. a Mint Mark or the designers name?

A book i have says the Mint Mark should be located to the left of the metal rods on the reverse / back side of the coin, i see nothing there.

The second pic includes a 1939 dime / the one on the right i found this afternoon at an old hotel location next to Capitol Blvd. near the 540 beltline with no apparent Mint mark.

Congrats on your first Merc..KenPa is correct.

Your dime was minted in Philadelphia if there is no "D" or "S" mint mark.

I know the spot you're talking about. I've never tried it, but there should be more there for you.
What is that oval tag in the picture?

I think the oval tag was a cover for a lock that you swung to the side before inserting your key.

I cant wait to find more goodies here.

Congrats on the silver...Once you find one Merc they usually start turning up a lot more often. The mint mark on the Mercury is on the reverse side just to the left of the center fluted pole toward the bottom if the coin.
