It was about 2 inches deep and in a ball of hard dirt. I wiped part of the dirt away and saw something shinning back at me. Didn't really know what it was until I turned it over. It's a 1942 and in pretty good condition except for a small hole at the top. Does that mean anything? Sorry again for not posting any pics. I had borrowed a camera from a friend of mine yesterday. Can't wait until tomorrow!

I grew up in W.Va. Mothers used to punch a hole in a silver coin, then tie it around their babys neck. It was supposed to help them with cutting teeth.

Congrats on your shining first Merc.
Love the way that silver comes out of the ground!!
Hope this is only the first of many many more for you.

You will find a lot of holed coins in your treasure hunting career.
This coin may have been something very special to someone,
and now it's special to you!!

Smiles!

Great find, your first Mercury dime is a great first. She is a beautifull Lady. That ACE 150 looks like it's doing a fine job for you.

You commented in another post that you have the ACE 150 and can't see if there is any difference in it and the ACE 250. There are some differences, but I usually use the jewelry mode and coin mode the most. I do use the relic mode when hunting in a field, but you detector dosen't have that on it. I do like the way the 250 shows the coins a litte better. But heck it looks like your ACE 150 it's doing a find job to me.

I know with your ACE you are going to find lots and lots more goodies. Can't wait to see the pictures of them from the camera Santa is going to bring you:)
