obviously they require extended cleaning but I'm posting them anyway :)

the left one is a silver denarius, not sure yet which emperor issued it, but with proper cleaning it will shine as new, or nearly so, when I pulled it from the ground it was dark brownish, I did not even understand it was silver til I got home and started to clean it

the right one is more interesting imo, its an AS coin issued by Nero Claudius Caesar, the patina is very nice and I will keep it, all I need to is to remove the rust on the back side. The picture does not do justice to this coin as it's much greener in reality than on the pic

Good start to the collection :hello2:

Maybe looks a little big for a 'As', I haven't checked but could it be a Sest.?

not sure tbh, could be a sest yes, also, I like the patina and will only remove the stain signs on the back, leaving the face as it is

Those are nice

Congrats

the biggest problem after finding 2000 year old silver is that I dont know if finding something "new" is gonna be as much fun anymore, so finding 19th century silver coins would not make me that much excited as before i'm afraid :)

Celtic Gold Stater  :icon_thumright:

btw, celtic coins are also found on that field, so there is a chance to find one, small chance ofc :) but that particular coin is a dream yes

It happened to me as well. after finding my Greek statue of Apollo of 2400 years old ....... all subsequent findings did not feel the same emotion. :angry7:
and always remember my first Roman silver coin .... is like the memory of my first love. :laughing7:
Greetings!

very nice finds, what detector are using?

What kind of detector are you using? What depth did you find those coins at?

I'm using a simple ace 250 with a 10x14" coil which increases the depth by a few inches compared to the standard ace coil...

the silver coin was about 4" below the surface and the green coin was about 7-9 inches below

Took me 20 years & then Dad got one in the same year (miles apart) after only 10 years. We have had a couple more since but they were my Wish List No.1 since I started. The more you try the better the chances

wow, that celtic coin is a dream... very nice! condition is close to perfection too.

once in a lifetime find :)

what about gold roman coins, are these found in your part of the UK ? thats also a dream of mine

Gold Romans are even less likely than Celtic. Its now at the top of the list but highly unlikely :tongue3:

I wonder how long its gonna take for chinese to make forgeries of gold coins :) even using real gold.. would not be surprised to see it to be honest, as some gold romans are extremely expensive

Many, many already exist in real Gold, some very hard to tell apart, only slight weight difference or die origination.
