Metal Detecting
I went for a late hunt. I was at an old school built in the 1920s. I popped this baby out of the ground! Maybe a centimeter or 2 deep. I came out shiny so it may be silver. It's also not magnetic. I have to wash it up to look for marks. The clay around here may have changed the color a tiny bit. How can I clean this? I don't want to ruin it. Thanks for looking!

Sorry for the bad pic!

I always try a little soap and water first. When I first find a ring that's covered in dirt I let it soak in a mild soap and water mix. After a couple hours I rinse and see if there is any detail to determine the type of metal.

Great find man!

Looks like gold plate over copper. Keep at it and you will find one that comes outta the ground looking so much like gold or silver that it is obvious and will be! HH

It has no markings but I'm going to get it acid tested. It looks silver/white gold/ platinum/ titanium. It rang up between copper and a quarter/dime so I don't know.

If you find gold you'll know it, that looks plated to me. Gold will be shiny although sometimes 10K will be a little tarnished... Keep digging!

I believe it may be plated in rhodium or silver, it came out very shiny. I wish I cold show y'all what it looks like after a quick rinse. I can see my reflection! Gonna go it it tested
