Have you prospected the river yet? Is it known to be gold bearing?
Does look like a great area, but before you go dropping a sluice in
there you might want to check with BLM (or the LR2000 System) and
insure it's not claimed.

Do some (OK..LOTS) of research on the area. Has gold been found there
in the past? Was it lode gold, or placer out of the river? Are gemstones
know to be in the area, too?

FWIW, I've found hundreds of "great looking spots" with Google Earth,
HOWEVER, that doesn't mean for a second that gold exists in those
locations. It might be a great place to start looking, and if you find
good color then work it, but ask any "old timer" and they'll tell you
it's always a crap-shoot at any new spot.

Do the homework, and if it still looks good then definitely get in there
and check it out!

yes i do know the area and yes gold has been found there and no one knows where the load is... it has never been found. i dont know about gems though. right where the road crosses the river its wilderness area... this side of the road is national forest. i have been doing extensive research and as far as i can tell there are no claims on it. if there isnt a claim how much do i have to find in order to stack a claim. i have done much research on how to stake a claim.

There is no rule about how much you have to find. Any 'discovery' is sufficient for the claim filing.

what are my right when it comes to my claim? i know thats a broad question but what i mean is do i get to fence off the area and not allow anyone in? how does that work? if i found any significant amount i will never leave. i am 42 years old and i have been going to that spot sense i was a kid and as far as i can remember i have never seen anyone there panning. i have researched the creek and i have found things that say there is significant amounts of gold there.

Great work! Sounds then as if it's time to get a pan and a sluice in there to do
some spot testing...

No. You have to allow free passage across your claim (except any active mining areas where safety is a concern.

hahaha im not giving up my secret:) im afraid of going up there with only my 50" keene sluice and it not be enuff. im planning a 4day trip there at the end of august about 3wks after my arm surgery, i tore my bicep tendon at work and now i have heterotopic bone in my arm so its got to come out, but i should b good to go. mayb if i find enuf on my 4day trip ill plane another trip soon after and take a 2" dredge.

so what stops some one from going up there when i cant be there and helping themselves?

There and back again

Seems like an amazing adventure! Let me tell you from actual experience, a lot of things change in 10 to 15 years! Make certain your vehicle is in top condition especially the suspension (shocks, springs, front end bushings, struts, etc.) Anything that hangs needs to be inspected and secured as it is going to take a beating on that road. Of course in 10 to 15 years it could have been paved and large housing developments could have been put in? Back to reality - All wheel bearings and seals need to be checked for lubrication, condition and torque settings. The entire rig needs a complete overhaul to confirm its off road worthiness and then you have to make sure you have enough gasoline along and oil to go "There and back again"! Lots of preparations! Let the adventure begin............................63bkpkr

oh of course... i keep my ford superduty with a 6"lift in tip top shape, as far as roads well i can tell you this much... this spot is very close to the base of the 14ers so i would bet everything i own that the road hasnt been paved and no housing. the road to the spot is about 28 miles but i dont have to tell you it could take 4hr to go that distance on a 4x4 road.

Nothing! People can camp, fish or do anything they want on your claim except prospect. Even if you was to make a nice camping spot for yourself and someone was camping there, you can not kick them off. You do not OWN the land, just the mineral rights.

You state you know rules...but don't know them at all. NO FENCES-NO RESTRICTING PUBLIC ACCESS AS THEY CAN CAMP,HUNT,Ride atvs/horses, FISH AND USE THAT PROPERTY AS THEIRS ALSO. The PRUDENT MAN RULE is the yardstick by which discovery and holding a claim is judged by-read the rules man at blm.gov as no permanent residency allowed anymore either,no buildings nuttn'-John

i never stated i knew all the rules... if you would go back and READ IT! i said i have been doing alot of research and not very much on staking a claim IN FACT i never said anything about knowing anything about staking a claim, thats why the questions!
