Is that a 100 year old tree growing on top of a pile of brick or rock?

It sure does look that way, although I haven't taken the time to do a close exam of the situation. Being a poplar though, I would guesstimate more like 50-60 yrs. I'll let you know how it turns up.

Bet that tree took root in what was once the ashes on the fireplace hearth and grew right up the chimney until it got big enough to collapse the bricks around it.

There oughta be a Continental dollar or two hiding in there somewhere..... along with the biggest rattlesnake in Eastern KY. :o
