Found first Indian head and oldest coin to date. After magnifying glass and three people looking at it it's 18_7 ? And found these other items . This was a mill site

I just got a set a few weeks ago. I had an oddly green crusty 1974 quarter and couldn't see the date. The pencils worked great. I haven't tried them on an old copper though.
I'm thinking a tooth brush just really easy

I've been using some Otis gun cleaning brushes. Nylon bristle but a little stiffer than a toothbrush. They've been working out pretty well for cleaning the dirt off in the field.

Congrats on the Indian and it being your oldest coin to date.

Congratulations on your oldest and first!

Have you tried shining a light from the side to better read the date?

I have found on crusty coppers like that, use a Q-tip and clean the date area thoroughly then hit it with some side light and the date should appear. I see 1867, just me though …congrats on finding your oldest coin, but know, they get older!!!!keep on swinging my friend
