My oldest find yet.

Penny boxes were subpar this week, but got a surprise when out popped my oldest find yet -- an 1864 Indian Head penny! It's heavily corroded, but the date is clear. HH

That's a great find... Looks like an 1864 L on Ribbon variety (see Red Book price guide) - on worn cents like that one you can tell by the sharp point on bust of Indian. Cool find!

I definitely did a double take on the date, figuring the 6 had to be an 8. It is going to be hard for me to top this date-wise but I guess you never know. Before I started CRHing I figured I would never find an IH penny in 'circulation' and this is my third.

WOW, congrats on your find, I could only imagine the look on your face seeing this coin pop out!!! Go back and get more from that batch. This is definately one of the oldest pennies I've seen on this forum in the past 3 years or so!

Keep up the penny searching, they're enjoyable to search and the denomination is not as heavily picked through as halves or dimes.
