Today, I go out with a fellow T-net member and had a pretty nice day. We went out to one of his spots to start the morning. Its was a nice section of trenches that he has found quite a few bullets at. So hoping to get a bullet or two in my pocket I get a real nice solid signal and out pops this 1853 Half dime. I think it was the first signal I dug. Pretty cool. Well we hit it for a little while longer but the mosquito were insane. Thanks Irene.
Next spot. We go over to one of my spots where I have dug some nice bullets and a whole bunch of spoons over the last weeks. Well no surprise spoons started the afternoon off. Now up until this point all the spoons are just nice plated with a little engraving. But I found this super nice one today. Its marked on the back "1847 Rogers Bros." then stamped US. I do not believe it is anything more than plated but I do think it was probably part of a field officers mess kit. If anyone has any ideas on it I would love to hear them. Also I don't know what the brass object is that is curved. Any thoughts?

The last photo is all the spoons I have found at this location and one lonely fork. I showed the property owner the silver one and she said "Oh we threw a whole box of those away we found in the barn." Seriously!?!?!?!?!

Thanks for looking
ynp

Nice finds, congrats on the half dime!

Great spoon finds ynp!
I love finding old spoons, I find there's something very personal about them. ;D
Stylistically most of your spoons look to date to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period (1890 - 1910).
It's hard to tell without better pictures though.

Congrats, the half-dime and the spoon are nice :icon_thumleft:

That's funny, I found a Rogers & Bro A1 plated spoon this past week too. Nice coin there.

ANTIQUARIAN- you hit the nail on the head. After a little research I found this-

"The Rogers Brothers-- Asa, Simeon, and William--had established a shop in Hartford, Connecticut in the 1840s. The brothers were known for the high quality of their wares and when they felt they had perfected the electroplating process in 1847 they marked their product with their name.

In 1862 the Rogers brothers moved to Meriden, Connecticut, the center of the Britannia ware industry. Britannia ware, an alloy that resembled pewter, could easily be cast into fancy hollowware pitchers and other decorative articles, which were then electroplated.

Rogers Bros. became part of the Meriden Britannia company. The Meriden Britannia company absorbed dozens of other silverware makers in the area and expanded its operation overseas, after which it became known as the International Silver Company. International Silver may have used the 1847 Rogers mark as early as 1852. The successor to the International Silver Company is still in business and uses the 1847 trademark to this day. All of the spoons I have found at this site have been International Silver.

Thanks for all the replies
