Mystery item

Found these items metal detecting a old home site all the items suggest 1860s to 1900 .not pictured...2 axe heads and a cast iron pot lid dated 1867...the one in question ts the unites states of America patent office item ...any help would be appreciated.

Is the date on the IH penny 1885 or 1865?

This medal was made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut around 1891. The Scovill Company was established in 1802 as a button manufacturer and is still in business today. Scovill was an early industrial American innovator, adapting armory manufacturing processes to mass-produce a variety of consumer goods including buttons, daguerreotype mats, and medals.Obverse: Image of an eagle on the shield of the United States, with a cogwheel and sheaf of grain to the left. The legend reads: PATENT OFFICE UNITED STATES OF
AMERICA.

Yes that is the same image. That's the patent office seal but It is not the item in question it is is in no way a coin or token...

I believe it is a suspender clip, although Google hasn't provided me any proof.

I thought that as well at first...ive found suspended clips before...but...they were metal or steel of some kind...this is thin yellow brass. I don't believe it would have been strong enough to hold pants and no sign of a way to connect a strap...also if so the seal would be upside down to the viewer..if the patent office is gonna make suspenders id hope theyd get it right.and three.why patent office suspenders .are you an officer or employed by them...

Many were made from brass. Patent office probably didn't make it. Lots of symbols were used by various manufactures on buttons, clips, buckles, etc.

Fair enough
