Found this stone along a river in NJ.
I call it "N foot" because it looks like an "N" on the end.

It is 3/4" thick

Anyone have any ideas? Natural? Etc?

Looks like a fossil to me

It almost looks like part of an old clam, but it also looks like a cast of a foot but I think it is just natural. A very cool find:icon_thumleft:

It looks like someone was sharpening points with it held in one hand?
Almost like a sharpening stone?

'Whatever it is, it is a cool piece. I would keep it as a conversational item :) kat

Charl, that makes the best sense so far. Would it be tied to a stick or held in one's hand?
Possibly the sinew would be tied off and then the stone would be moved along the sinew to soften?

Not sure, but what you're saying makes sense. Or maybe gripped by the knees and rub hard and fast in a groove.
