Folks, I had a very good day today out in the NC woods. I had a dream last night that I dug a CW belt plate. Well, I didn't find a belt plate today, but I did find enough lead to make one. I tucked my pant legs into my socks, sprayed myself down with Deet, and headed out into the woods. I'm working a wooded area behind where the new road is going in. There is a big stream here, and many dried up streams/creeks throughout the 200+ acre woods. Basically, a great spot for a CW camp. This area so far has turned up belt keepers, knapsack hooks & snaps, asst'd CW bullets, bullet lead chunks, a no date SLQ, a 1902 IH, and a few buttons.
Wondering around, I decided to follow a 4-wheeler trail through the woods since it was clear and the surface was compacted. That soon ended with a large tree covering the path. I decided to head left, and I'm glad I did. I got a signal out in the middle of nowhere.
I was happy to dig a 3-ringer, but that was just the beginning!!! As you can see in my videos, the bullets didn't stop until I found 14 in the same 4' area!!! I couldn't believe it! :o This is the most bullets I've EVER dug in one spot, and the most in any hunt. Yeah, Baby!!! ;D I must of dug at least 40 shotgun shell heads and rifle casings too out there today. :(
Here's my videos. Thank God I had my camera with me this time!!! :tongue3:

A few days ago, I found two other 3-ringers and a nice button.
The button has a "Robinson & Co. - Extra" backmark. Circa 1820's-1830's.

Thanks for looking,
MM

Dave,

How do you like the Tesoro Silver Umax? I just bought one and this will be my first detector without a ID screen. Any tips ? Also have you tried the 10 x 12 coil ?

Hoosier,
My name is Doug, but I've been called many things. :tongue3:
I'm also a Hoosier from LaPorte originally.
I love my Silver Umax and have used one for over a few years now with a 9x8 coil as seen in the vids. I've never tried (or needed really) a 10x12 coil.
I can honestly say my machine can keep up with the big dogs no problem. I've detected with others using Minelabs, Garretts, & White's and do just as good as them and sometimes better. If you can live without a display on your detector than this Silver Umax is a fantastic machine.
I've gotten to know the different sounds and can pretty much tell if the target is good or junk. The machine is also super light and won't wear you out. I can hunt all day without getting tired. It runs on one 9-volt battery, and has a lifetime warranty. The folks at Tesoro have super service too.
As far as tips, the two I recommend most are: 1) GO SLOW & (2) Grid the area you are hunting back & forth.
Here are just some of the things I've found with mine over the last few years.
I hope you enjoy you new machine.
-Doug-
HOOSIERS are #1 !!! ;D

GREAT machine. I'll be getting the 10 x 12 in the next few months for mine.

MM,

Did you recheck that last hole? It looked like #15 was laying there when you picked up #14.

One HECK of a dig, buddy. Keep it up.

Doug,

Awesome finds ! I have a weeks vacation during the second week of October and hope to see what the Silver UMax can do. They are beginning to harvest the crops so hopefully I can get some field hunting in with it. Here in Indiana we just don't have the relics like you have in your state. Keep the youtube videos coming !

What part of Indiana are you in? I have some old late 1800's maps of LaPorte County. They show where all the old houses, schools, etc. were /are located.
Good luck & I hope you find a lot of great finds.

Thanks BB.
I told you I was trying out for the Iron Brigade.
Actually after finding that 14th CW bullet, I scanned the whole area in all metal mode. It was as silent as my boss at raise time. :tongue3:
I took my shovel and dug down deeper in the holes, but still nothing. :( I think I got them all.
Hoping to find some more patches like that AND a belt plate sooner or later.

Hoosier, I beg to differ about relics in Indiana.

Get out in those fields.

Doug,

I live in central Indiana about 13 miles southeast of downtown Indianapolis. On my my vacation I'm hunting some land that had a school from the 1890s on it before they tore it down. I will hit it hard with the Silver UMax. Tonight I cleaned a Bounty Hunter Elite 2200 that I was putting on Ebay. I went outside and took some photos of it. I wanted to get some pics of the ID screen so I swung a few swings and hit a penny/dime target. After cutting a plug out came a 1935 Wheat Penny. I've hunted my yard to no ends as my house was built in the early 1920s . We'll see if the Silver UMax can find anything left in my yard :)

Hoosier,
Here are a few goodies I found up in Indiana last month so I know you have nice digs up there too. ;D

I was hoping to hit a field where there once stood an old 1800's school house, but the corn was about 9' tall. :'(
Good luck,
Doug

BuckleBoy,

I was mainly talking about Civil War relics. We just didn't have any battles here. We did have Camp Morton where several thousands of Confederate POWs were kept. After the war they leveled the place and houses were built on the land. Only boundary markers remain today.

Awesome humt! Wasn't there a video game at one time called "DIG!, Doug"?......NGE

Yeah...yer a lucky one alright. Lucky in that with all that snortin' and heavy breathing, you didn't attract every female deer around for miles! ;D
:D Jes kiddin! Had to comment on the breathing thing though!~ :icon_jokercolor:

Super dooper finds and the videos are the bomb, MM! Love it when you do the videos! :icon_pirat:
