This is my first time using the site, but my dad just purchased some property in west Texas next to big bend and i need help identifying a rock formation or fossil we have found out there. There are multiple so we were guessing it was a byproduct of the ancient volcanic activity or a fossil of sorts. it can be scratched by steel and there is barley any magnetic pull if any. please help id. photo (1).webpphoto (2).webp

can't really tell, but it might be a concretion. I am not really seeing fossils, but I am kinda blind even with my glasses on. Harry where are you when we need ID?

I google search instead of going by the sample pictures they use since if you noticed they are almost perfect specimens

I was told it looked like Almandine Garnet but I don't think it is...It looks more like Aragonite/Chalcedony which I saw was in your area..If so they say it is rare.

It's a type of Hematite, from what I can see.

Going by the rusty colour I'd guess Limonite. A brownish streak?
