Need help to ID coin found near Colchester England

I found this a couple years ago and thought it was some sort of token. I decided to give it a gentle clean and believe the front is a coin. Any ideas what it is?

It looks like a George III farthing or halfpenny, depending on the size. It has been counterstamped with the JO.

That's neat! I have two halfpennies counterstamped with a similar "JO" I keep meaning to try to attribute it. It may not be possible to figure it out - maybe some local merchant's initials.
