Looks to me like candle holder of some sort. I found it on home site dating back to late 1770's. Any idea what it is and time period. It is 3 1/4 inch round, I am not sure how it would have been hung, there is a small hole in the bottom of the cup. Thanks in advance.

for many years We had a Heatrola Coal stove.
Something Like this (Not Exact; I don't think)
Sitting in our Living Room.

On the Back there was a Metal half Cup design .
I always Figured it was for Water. Sort of as an antique humidifier.

Just a guess .
because it doesn't look fancy enough for a Decorative wall Sconce
or have nail holes.

Of course it could even be a car part :dontknow:

Seems to me you would have the same problem attaching it to a stove. I figured with a hole in the bottom of the cup section, it wouldn't be used for a liquid. There might have been a decorative ring (with a mounting provision) around the edge to clamp on to the "wall" section. It could have been a home made piece and not a store bought one.

could also be the inside mold to something coated with plastic or decorative chrome
on the outside.
