I found this pin at a old house site that burned down in the 1960s. The old house dated from 1880s. You could tell the pin had been hot or been in the fire. It has two screw clasps on the back. It is about 2 1/2 in. tall by 2 1/2 in. wide. made of brass. It has thirteen stars on the shield. thanks for the help. TL

Many of the older military hat pins were sterling. Sometimes not mark as such. Does not looked burn but the silver would darken over time especially in the recessed portions. This looks silver to me.Great find!
